Oikos
OIKOS: Mobile Cooking IslAND
OIKOS grew from a research for ways in which food culture and cooking could be more intensively integrated in the working space, enhancing creativity, performance and the team spirit. The table that stands central to the project is designed as an island that can function as a central meet- ing-point for the space members. OIKOS creates a plattform where cooking- and eating culture fuse and a moment of social interaction and informal communication is created. It recreates the balance of making and consuming food and invites to discover the freedom and creative potential within the act of cooking.
To provide more exibility - necessary in many open working spaces where structures need to remain open and temporarily- the table was designed as a two-wheeled wagon which can be lifted and pushed into the center of the room or aside if needed.
To transform an ordinary table top into a table where cooking and eating becomes possible, the table top includes electrical sockets, storage place and an induction stove which can be covered by a lid when not in use – a setup that allows the table to be used both for working and cooking. For further storage space, the table consists of four large metal drawers in different sizes, locat-
ed under the tabletop. At a height of one meter, the 2 x1 meter wide table makes it easy to work while standing, creating a lively and interactive situation among the user.
The construction of the sleek metal frame from black powder coated steel and the complimenting wide tabletop of warm oak wood becomes a knock down at pack fo transportation and storage of the object.
